Backbone: Obama “Goes In” on The Donald and Others

1 May

Okay, so “going in” might be a slight misrepresentation of how it all really went down, but the truth of the matter is, at Saturday’s annual White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, Mr. Obama jokingly (or was it?) let Donald Trump and others know how he really felt about them:

“I know that he’s taken some flack lately, but no one is happier, no one is prouder to put this birth certificate matter to rest than The Donald.  And that’s because he can finally get back to focusing on the issues that matter, like–did we fake the moon landing? What really happened in Roswell? And where are Biggie and Tupac?”

The President also took shots at Trumps credentials, (or rather, lack thereof in his maybe, maybe-not bid for the presidency in 2012), and instigated some conspiracy theorist ribbing about his other potential 2012 opponents; like Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) having been born in Canada, Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty concealing his middle name “Hosni”, Ambassador to China Jon Huntsman actually being Chinese and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney passing universal health care.

Now, I realize that Obama’s roast-like comments for the most part, were in jest and customary of the sitting president at the annually held dinner, but one has to wonder how good it must have felt for the POTUS to get some of that pent-up, turn the other cheek frustration with his detractors off his chest.

All that would have been needed to make the president’s Saturday night comments perfect though, would have been for him to drop the mic, Randy Watson style!
